About EMP

EMP stands for Electromagnetic Pulse. These pulses, if strong enough, can damage or destroy electronic devices and equipment, as well as power systems, such as the power lines and distribution system for AC power, in the USA and elsewhere.

EMP can be generated by the sun and via a high altitude nuclear detonation. An EMP from the sun generally does not directly destroy electronics unless connected to the AC power system, but is murder on long lines such as a power grid, if strong enough. A nuclear detonation causes a much higher frequency 'E1' pulse that instantly destroys electronics anywhere in its path that is not fully protected. It also generates a shorter E2 and much longer E3 pulse. E3 is similar to a solar EMP, and can destroy the power grid.
